Songwriting Tip #3 // ONE STEP REMOVED

It's said that when Paul Simon writes his songs he doesn't just sit at the piano or play guitar - he also bounces a tennis ball! As he strolls around the room bouncing the tennis ball he is allowing his subconscious to flow - to remove his mind by 'one degree'.

Sometimes to be totally present we need to step away from the screen or put the guitar down and detach to re-engage in the writing process and stay one step removed.
