Thank You For Supporting Worship Central

29 Jul 2010

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout our 100k run last week. We made it! We've created a video for you on how it went! Enjoy!

Now, if you were at Worship Central in March and you havent already turned your 10ner from the Hope HIV 10:10 challenge into 1000's you need to get going. July 31st was the deadline - but if you need longer for grander plans, that’s fine too! It would be great if you let Hope HIV know on info@hopehiv.org

If you have done some fundraising yourself then let us know below and send the money you raised to Worship Central 1010 Challenge, HOPEHIV, 79 Craven Gardens, London SW19 8LU. Please don’t send cash – it tends to go missing in the post! Instead, fill in the Gift Form from www.hopehiv.org/1010 or make a cheque payable to HOPEHIV. If you used a sponsor form as part of your fundraising, please remember to enclose it. If you’ve snapped any 1010 Challenge action shots, please do send those through to the address above as well!

Forget the World Cup, Olympics take a hike, this years biggest sporting event is going to be the Worship Central 100k Challenge! Eleven of the team are going to be donning their lycra and running 100k between them on 20 July 2010 for HopeHIV, and they need you to sponsor them today!

We would love your support as we put down the guitars, put on running shoes and get active in the fight against AIDS. We are really passionate about the work that HOPEHIV are doing; the way they are working amongst local communities, not just trying to bring a bit of relief, all of which is important, but actually trying to rebuild and transform communities, to raise up leaders and to inspire young people to believe that they can change the course of history.

What is the 1010 Challlenge?
The 1010 Challenge has played a key role in HOPEHIV’s history, raising over £2m in the late 1990s to start the charity, and being deployed ever since to engage with companies, churches, communities, and schools.

At Worship Central’s London conference in March 2010, all delegates were handed an envelope which contained £10. Phil Wall, founder of HOPEHIV, challenged delegates to get creative and find ways of turning their tenner into £100. However, we decided that we spend so much time trying to be creative that we would get active instead! Sponsor us by clicking the button below or visit http://www.justgiving.co.uk/1010worshipcentral

We appreciate you taking time to visit our page and hope you will support us as we take up Phil’s challenge to contribute to HOPEHIV’s work in sub-Saharan Africa. All proceeds will go directly to the charity. If you would like to find out more about the charity itself please visit hopehiv.org.

TEAM BIOS

AL GORDON
Having only been running once in his life, Al is planning to shock the world with his pace and long lasting stamina. Being the gadget man himself, let’s see what tricks he’s got up his sleeve!

TIM HUGHES
Confident to win, Tim has been training weekly, showing effort and enthusiasm. Primarily a footballer, this is a new discipline for Tim, but hopefully his diet will have made the difference!

RACHEL ABRAHAM
Looking to head hunt victory, Rachel has hit the treadmill in between moving house and painting. With a moto of “I never loose”, the rest of the team are pretty scared…

LUKE HELLEBRONTH
Also known as ‘The Giant’, he’s the people’s favourite and odds on to win the race. His incredible technique, big lungs and huge leaps for mankind should see him go far in life (and the race).

TOM SMITH
Sometimes known as ‘Speedy Gonzalas’, Tom is on the cards to trump the run and claim victory. Again, primarily a footballer, but with new running shoes, this to Tom will be a piece of cake!

DOLORES DELGADO
In the film Chariots of Fire, Eric Liddel’s character famously said, “God made me fast, and when I run I feel God’s pleasure.” Well, God made Dolores bow-legged and a bit lazy and when she runs she hears him laughing. But that’s not going to stop her. In fact, she enjoys God’s giggle so she plans to take this 10k run by storm.

MYLES DHILLON
By far the most professional and experienced of the team having done marathons and hitting the gym on daily occasions. Myles is leaving his rapping to one side and getting ready for some lapping! Shabba!

BEN CANTELON
Benny 'the jets' Cantelon has been known for his speed in various athletic competitions. But it has been a few years since the jets have been put to good use, so Ben has been training vigorously to get ready for the race. When asked about the race he said " I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure " So watch out folks, Cantelon will be a serious contender.…

NIKKI FLETCHER
Sometimes referred to as "little dynamite", or "pocket sized powerhouse". This 5"1.5 inched songstress may be small in stature but she's not in determination - she's able to push out a baby in 3 & 1/2 hours, drug free, and may just beat some of the boys in the 10k run (depending on her mood that day).

ROXANNE FOX
Although she is more comfortable picnicking in the park than running around it, Rox is sure that her years spent running for buses, to ensure optimum punctuality at all times, will pay off. She is determined to maintain her record of promptness all the way to the finish line.

STEVE EVANS
Thinks of himself of a Rock God.. Will Steve be able to stun the world with his grizzly thighs. With inspirations including: Lyford Christy, Jonathan Edwards and Chris Acubusi, we’re hoping for a top performance.
