Lyrics are below:
VERSE 1:
How do I ever thank You for all You have done for me
I was lost and You found me, I was blind and now I see
Such love I don’t understand
I see the work of Your hand
And wonder how it is You ever thought of me
CHORUS:
Your love has lifted me high – now I’m free to dance
You love set me alive
Your love has lifted me high – now I’m free to dance
VERSE 2:
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer
Come take my hand precious Lord
There’s no way I could afford
To live a single day without Your spirit in me
TAG:
Your love lifted me, lifted me high
Your love lifted me, set my heart free to fly
Your love lifted me, lifted me high
Your love lifted me, set my heart free to fly
i really like this only one suggestion, how about (to live a single day without your love) your spirit in me sounds very different.
im not sure about it.
Hiyah Wayne! Long time no post!
I like this - intro hit me right between the eyes, just where I like my music to hit me. Awesome arrangement. I just love the honky-tonk piano and the mammas on backing vox. I bet you had fun with this one?
................ and as for the tag - oh yeah baby.
Sorry, no constructive criticism, only encouragement to keep doing it mate.
God bless you and lift you high.
Rog
PS Not sure about this new Worship Central format - it would be handy to see who first posted the songs like we could in the old days
this is another really great song really like the chorus and everything fits together really nicely, but every song i hear from you are in the same kind of style so maybe you could try a different approach? even if its just a slow one? just curious, not critisising you!
love god. love life. love worship
Hey Waye,
Another really well put together, fun song. Top stuff!
I really like the tag but it's all past tense. Can you move it from past to present (your love still lifts me) as you run through the repetitions?
My only other comment (and it seems to be true for a few worship songs) is that if you're going to talk about being "free to dance" it's best having a tempo and rhythm that would make people able to dance. I think the tempo here lends it self more to swaying with lighters than dancing...
hi wayne,
great song again here, nice one!
i think the main issue i have is with the words, im not sure the two verses really link that well thematically?
the hymn what a friend we have in Jesus is great but along different lines to the other verse you have about grace (essentially). why not write a new verse 2.
also the lines 'I was lost and You found me, I was blind and now I see' are ok but incredibly overused ideas. any way of saying something new there?
free to fly in the tag is a bit of a stretch aswell for me, just seems there to rhyme. anyway of making that stronger?
im also not sure we can be set alive? it might just be me tho!
keep working on it, musically very clever as always!
God bless,
gav.
Cheers again guys. Hey Tim - thanks for that mate. Take a listen to "At the cross" on here. It's slower - be good to hear from you whether this has a different feel or not (I so realise you can write a slower song but it can still have a similar feel and groove to some faster songs).
Paul - hiya mate. Fair comment about it not being a dance up and down number . . . did it at a school last Friday and got the kids waving about (like wannabe rappers . . . they loved it!) Think I might stick with this approach. LOL
Gav - you legend. Hmmmm - got me on your points. Any ideas?
Cheers again for the feedback
Wayne
hi wayne,
maybe revisit the inspiration for the song, what was he thought behind writing it? what is the main message youre rying to convey?
then try and stick to that message and say it in the most unique way you can (easy to say i know!)
or maybe you could stick to the same tense in the 2nd verse by saying 'what a friend you are lord Jesus, then tweak the other lines so they are different to the hymn and more in line with message of being free to dance?
cheers,
Gav.
Hi Wayne
I took a friend of mine for an appointment at Addenbrookes last week, and came past your church. Must pay you a visit on a Sunday one of these days!
