"You Rolled Away The Stone" - if you like Fee / Lincoln Brewster / Newsboys
2 replies
This is a finished version. Probably best suited for churches which incorporate uptempo rocking songs from Fee, Lincoln Brrewster, Newsboys (I Am Free) etc. While this song can be used at Easter, it is actually a look at the transforming power of Jesus in the life of the believer, and can be sung all year long. I would appreciate any feedback you might have. You are welcome of course, to 'test drive' the song with your congregation if you like. I have attached the mp3 and chord chart pdf. Thanks for listening! Lovely song, nice work! quite original idea in the chorus,i guess im struggling to really grasp what that means tho? i guess the rest of the lyric explains what you mean, but i wonder if a more simple idea like 'you rolled away the stone you died and rose again' would be clearer? fantastic recording, love it! God bless, gav.
Hey Gavin, thanks so much for taking the time to comment, and for your encouragement! As far as what the chorus means, it isn't speaking of Christ's resurrection, but of Christ raising the believer from death to life. The symbolism of hearing Jesus calling our name, and the stone being rolled away comes from the story of Christ raising Lazarus - which is also a picture of how we are made alive in Christ and released from the power of sin and death. "38 Jesus was still angry as he arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance. 39 “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.” 40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” 41 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!” John 11:38-44 NLT Hope this helps make it clearer.
