Hey, here is a another song that myself and Becca have written. We have been doing this song at our local church, Centrepoint Church Guildford. It seems to have gone down really well. We would love to introduce it to you guys and get your feedback too. Hope you like it.

Wondrous Cross
Romans 8:37-39
Copyright Hitch & Pike 2008
1. I look up at the cross,
Where Your life paid the cost
I owed with love I’d never known,
I look up at the cross,
Where you gave your last breath
To rescue me from sin and death.
Ch. Through Your wondrous cross,
You have opened up the way,
Through Your arms of love,
I can only stand amazed,
There’s no greater love,
You have done enough,
Through Your cross,
2. I look up at the cross,
Where You went in obedience
Though You were innocent.
I look up at the cross,
Where Your body was crushed and bruised,
That by Your wounds I’m healed.
M8. What can separate me now?
From the love that’s found in Christ.
What can separate me from Your love?
It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Hi H&P - lovely song, beautifully recorded. I'm presuming that it's not really open to changes given that it's been recorded 'n' all, but just a couple of comments just in case you can still make a few tweaks - or perhaps something to bear in mind for future songs:
- the first verse made me make a bit of a double-take with the line 'where your life paid the cost' where of course it was Jesus' death that paid the cost... then I realised you meant that Jesus giving his life paid the cost - but wondered if that could be tweaked so it was more immediately obvious. Might just be me reading it wrong though!
- the other comments are a bit more significant - sorry if I always bang on about this, but I do think a proper understanding of the Trinity is fundamental to our faith, and we need to be very careful in how we present that in our songs. So in the chorus where you say 'you have opened up the way' - it's a bit of shame that it doesn't go on and say the way to what - because the answer is that Jesus opens the way to the Father.
More seriously in the bridge you've got 'what can separate me now from the love that's found in Christ' which is what vs 35 of Ro 8 says, but more fully vs 39 says:
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
i.e. again it's the Father's love that is revealed in Christ, and also Christ's love for and obedience to the Father in going to the cross. I think if you could bring more of those Trinitarian elements in, you'd have a stronger, more theologically rich song - I'm not saying this is unusable by any means, it's a great song - but maybe just something to consider for future writing as well. Hope that helps, do be encouraged, you've done well in bringing Scripture into your song, just need to make sure that it's given the fullest context possible.
God bless
Matt

Hey
I really like your stuff. It would be good to listen to a simplier recording as the production is very very good and can lead you away from listening to whats inside the song.
Matt has given you food for thought in his comments and I'd encourage you to think about it.
But your songs are a blessing, to me if nothing else. Im still fix our eyes!
Be blessed
Peter
Hey guys, Thank you for your comments. Pete, really glad you like our songs. There is a simpler version of Wondrous Cross on youtube www.youtube.com/hitchandpikeworship
Thank you Matt for taking the time to listen and comment on our song. It is great to see your passion in writing songs which explain the Trinity. I checked out a couple of your songs on RESOUND worship. Thought the production of songs were really good. Great voice too.
We will bear your comments in mind when writing future worship songs. Our desire is to continue to write worship songs which are theologically rich and deep rooted in the word. We do though aim to write songs which are memorable and attainable. Sometimes it isn't possible to explain everything in a worship song particularly something as complex as the Trinity. I believe simplicity is key to writing good worship songs.
Tim Hughes has written a really good blog on the importance of simplicity in writing worship songs. www.worshipcentral.org/forum/topic/song-writing-substance-and-simplicity
Take care and God bless!
