Hey; I don't have anything fancy either.
I just have a mike that plugs into my computer that i can use for Skype/MSN calls and record myself playing/singing using a free program called "wavepad." It's not amazing, but it works.
Hope that helps.

I had an amazing mic that cost me all of £19.99; it actually was amazing for the price it was a Skytronic USB Microphone http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=SK501174 It isn't Shure SM58 sound quality but for the price I found it perfect for starting out in recording. With a really cheap stand as well it's a bargain. :)
I would save up for some proper stuff purely so you're not buying more and more every few months.

Thanks guys for your help! I will definitely look into Wavepad!
God Bless
