or "8 very good reasons to worship!"
i was reading psalm 114 the other day (when i probably should have been working) and saw 8 insights relating to what happens when the presence of God is released in true worship, which can be summarised as
1)moving
2)praising
3)sanctifying
4)reigning
5)shaking
6)repelling
7)transforming
8)abounding
these come from the following verses:
1)moving
"When Israel went out of Egypt.." - we move into the place of walking according to, or in step with, the spirit of God; that is out of Egypt, which represents the old nature
2)praising
"Judah became.." - Judah means praise
3)sanctifying
"His sanctuary'' - we move into the captivating wholeness of intimacy with God's presence
4)reigning
"And Israel His dominion " Israel means prince of God
5)repelling
"The sea saw it and fled;
6)shaking
"The mountains skipped like rams,
7)transforming
"rock into a pool of water," - unyielding circumstances, patterns of behaviour, into fluid possibilities & cradles of life
8)abounding
"The flint into a fountain of waters."
So, there are 8 powerful reasons to worship:
1)Moving
worship moves us into action physically, emotionally, imaginatively - shifting us from the natural to the supernatural
2)Praising
worship leads into deeper places of worship and intimate communion with God
3)Sanctifying
worship has a sanctifying effect (the living creatures cry holy, holy in revelation 4...experiencing Christ transforms us from glory to glory according to Paul, 2 corinthians 3:8)
4)Reigning
worship recognizes and asserts God's sovereignty, psalm 149
5)Repelling
worship repels evil in its 3 main manifestations (the world system, here represented as the sea, the flesh and the devil) - Jordan means 'death', so we can see the presence of life warring with death, which is the fruit of sin and walking according to the flesh.
This mirrors the inner 'moving' above.
6)Shaking
worship shakes spiritual obstacles, the spiritual causes of behind physical problems as well as reordering personal priorities, again see the end of psalm 149 for its spiritual militancy.
This mirrors outwardly the "praising' aspect above.
7)Transforming
worship transforms the environment around us, imparting life and hope.
This mirrors outwardly the inner 'sanctifying' aspect above.
8)Abounding
in the fountain, i see worship unlocking the abundance which reflects the Father's love.
This mirrors outwardly the inner 'reigning' aspect above.
so, from the top (!)
1 When Israel went out of Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2 Judah became His sanctuary,
And Israel His dominion.
3 The sea saw it and fled;
Jordan turned back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams,
The little hills like lambs.
5 What ails you, O sea, that you fled?
O Jordan, that you turned back?
6 O mountains, that you skipped like rams?
O little hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water,
The flint into a fountain of waters.
