The Name

Hi guys, I'd love some constructive feedback about this new song. I'm thinking of introducing it to our congregation soon but want to check it out with you all first.
It's about who Jesus is, what He came to earth for, and... just praising His name.

Verse1
You came to give us life
You came to make us whole
You came to break the chains that bind our souls

You came to conquer death
You came to settle all
You came that we shall stand and never fall

Chorus
How precious, how lovely is the name
That sets the captive free
How lovely is the name
How precious, how lovely is the name
That sets the captive free
How lovely is the name

Verse2
You are the prince of peace
You are the great 'I am'
You are the solid rock on which I stand

You are Emmanuel
You are the first and last
You give me hope and cleanse me from my past

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Really would appreciate some feedback on this song. Don't worry about sounding harsh, I'd rather get help with it before I use it in church.

Thanks guys.
Neil

Hi Neil,

I enjoyed this song. My one thought would be maybe trying the last line as How lovely is Your Name. I'm not really sure why I think that. I think maybe its because you use the You in the verses.

Chris

hey Neil - I like this song, especially the chorus. Like the lyrics too. One comment I would make (which is more of an arrangement thing) is to give the vocals more space to grow. The female vocal singing with you is really lovely but my suggestion would be to not give away too much too soon and maybe save the harmonies for the chorus. I think at the moment it almost detracts from the melody in the verse. You could try starting of with just the lead vocal (this should establish the melody up front and clear) and then maybe have a second voice join you in the chorus (maybe even in unison - again it will strengthen the melody line). Harmony on the 2nd verse and then nice and strong in the chorus would work really well I reckon. DO like the "Jesus, Jesus" bridge and I think the female vocal adds a really nice and different texture here.

Just my thoughts - but hey, well done on this. I think it's a good song and easy to pick up.

PS: Where about in P'boro are you? Do you ever come to Cambridge?

I think you're right with the BV's. I recorded this a few months ago, and having come back to it I had the same thought. Thanks for your feedback Wayne, really apreciate it.

Just come back to visit family really these days, recommend a visit to Kingsgate Church in P'Borough if you've never been there. I visited there over Christmas for the first time and got a great welcome, really good stuff going on there!

Neil.
