So; I turned 18 the other day and i got given Loads of cash :) Haha.
I'm contemplating what to get with it and the iPad came to mind, but i don't know if it's going to be worth it. Is it just a shiny toy i will use for a week and disguard or is it something i'll buy and use forever?
Does anyone out there have one/have experience of one and want to tell me what they think?
I also thought about getting a new guitar (as i've ever only had hand me down's before so would lvoe to buy a nice new one. But my guitar knowldge is somewhat lacking so can anybody recomend a nice electro Acoustic guitar i could buy that would be great not only for personal use but also when leading worship?
OR if you know of something that is a great thing to buy for an 18th present. Haha.
Thanks all
Andrew W :)

Andrew
Maybe your bill is high because you don't have a good contract?!? Just a thought.
Personally, I wouldn't buy an iPhone as I feel it's a style over substance argument. The equivalents are pretty good too, and they're expensive on a month by month basis. For myself I have a basic mobile, a laptop and 3G dongle. Why do I need an iPhone?
It's part of the Apple-isation of churches that don't really need Apple technology, but buy it because it looks cool (and lets face it, some of the budget holders are boys with toys kind of guys). Our church runs very well on PC technology at the moment. It's far cheaper than Apple, and we won't need anything like Apple stuff until we start getting funky with video technology.

How much money are you being given? We can advise on some nice acoustics that you can plug in then.

I've got £400 from birthday money and can spend probably £100 or so of my own money to put towards a guitar.

Well that would get you a decent guitar...
I'd probably say look for a Faith guitar for that money. I've recommended them to 3 people who've bought them and been so happy that it convinced me to buy one myself. Very very good guitars. Try a Venus or Jupiter model.
Look for a used one on eBay... probably pay around £300 for one... new, they cost closer to £500 in a shop.

Yeah don't fall for @pple hype - it's sad how many people do. There's always something slightly inferior about it so that they can bring out version 2 next year and get everyone to dump the old hardware and upgrade to the latest gadget. 18's a significant year, so pick something that isn't disposable but will last. A life-long guitar is a worthwhile investment if you seriously enjoy playing it and use it enough. Might be nice to make a token gesture elsewhere so other people can benefit from your big day too and when you remember it in future, you can remember them too. Just a thought :)
