The age gap

(not entirely sure which section to post this under)

I've been listening to some 'vintage' Delirious? and rediscovered this song:

WHEN ALL AROUND HAS FALLEN

When all around has fallen, your castle has been burned
You used to be a king here, now no one knows your name
You live your life for honour, defender of the faith
But you've been crushed to pieces and no one knows your pain

Come, come lay your weary head, be still my friend
Come, rise, I'll place my sword upon your shoulder
Come, rise with me

When tomorrow has been stolen and you can't lift your head
And summer feels like winter, your heart is full of stone
Though all your hopes have fallen, your skin is now your only armour
Wear your scars like medals defender of the faith

Come, come lay your weary head be still my friend
Come, rise, I'll place my sword upon your shoulder
Come, come lay your faithful head, be still my friend
Come rise with me

I think it's been described as a song 'from father to son, and son to father' (can't reference that, sorry) and I love the closeness and care expressed in the lyrics.

It's got me thinking, there is a definite age gap in our culture, and I know I've been guilty of conforming with it sometimes. It's important that we form friendships outside our age groups as well as within them. As a Church, we should be a family; welcoming, loving and supporting people of all ages. We have to learn from those older and wiser than we are.

Just some thoughts...

Hi Kathryn

I think you are right and it will be people like yourself with a soft heart towards God who will make a change and be apart of something lasting for future generations.

Keep listening to His heart beat!!!

Thanks for sharing it is such an encouragement.

God Bless

Ummm - "turning the fathers' hearts towards the sons and the sons' hearts towards the fathers'"...

Wasn't that prayed for at TheCall back in 2002?

Um...no idea, I wasn't there. I can't remember where I saw that quote...maybe it was on the Cutting Edge (3 and Fore) CD cover/booklet thingy?
