Did most of us watch SoP last Sunday and watch that absolutely fabulous performance of "Gethsemane" by Steve Balsamo? He played Jesus in a past production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Before anyone runs the show down .... firstly, Steve puts in an incredibly sensitive and genuine performance every time he sings Gethsemane. I find it incredibly moving to watch and often it ends in tears but not just mine.

Such is the power in Steve's performance, he is crying by the end of the song and it is genuine emotion and such a moving moment for everyone involved not only Steve but the audience too.
If you check out the youtube performances and watch them, you can see the genuine emotion just spilling over.

For Lloyd Webber and Rice to write such a powerful song it is amazing and then find an inexperienced singer (as in not having performed on stage) and give him the role was a moment of inspiration.

My MAIN POINT is, I feel a performance like this somehow brings home to us the reality of how Jesus felt at that point in his life and ministry. To realise he is about to die, about to give up his life because it is God's will. And for us, how can we match such an act as this?

It is truly moving, humbling, devastating, sad, and to realise the enormity of Jesus' sacrifice is like having your heart squeezed so tight you can't breathe.
