Secular Songs with 'Christian' theme
17 replies

I am new to the site, so I apologise if you have explored this theme before!

We try to put on an 'evangelistic' music concert about once a quarter and we use a mix of Christian/Secular songs, and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of songs for our next one? All songs are explained, and we try not to make the links too tenuous!
For example at the last one we did 'Can you feel the love tonight', some Evanescence, 'Masterplan' (Oasis), Everybody Hurts, but I need a bit of fresh inspiration!

Thank you!

God put a smile on your face-Coldplay
You got the love-candi staton or florence and the machine
roll away your stone-mumford and sons

Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer/Keep The Faith/We Weren't Not Born To Follow
Oasis - Wonderwall
KT Tunstall - Hopeless
The Calling - Wherever You Will Go
Jimmy Eat World - Chase The Light

Then there's Christian bands such as Switchfoot and Fireflight which have Christian messages, but aren't explicitly Christian like worship stuff is

U2 - Still haven't found

The Beatles' "In My Life" is a song that has taken on new meaning for me after giving my life over to Jesus.

Everything - Lifehouse

secular songs with a ChristianISH message are good.

secular tunes with new Christian lyrics?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I spend my time trying to remember the original (usually much, much better) lyric.

the only one we use with any regularity in our church is "Oh Lord I want to sing your Praises" to the tune of La Bamba, but as I don't speak Spanish, it's not a distraction!!

Paramore - we are broken.

I am outside, and I've been waiting for the sun, with my wide eyes.
I've seen worlds that don't belong, my mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalize, tell me why we live like this?

Keep me safe inside, your arms like towers; tower over me.

Yeah, because we are broken. What must we do to restore our innocence and all the promise we adored? Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole.

Lock the doors, because I'd like to capture this voice, that came to me tonight, so everyone will have a choice and under red lights, I'll show myself it wasn't forged. We're at war, we live like this.

Keep me safe inside, your arms like towers; tower over me.

Because we are broken, what must we do to restore our innocence and all the promise we adored? Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole.

Tower over me, tower over me ...and I'll take the truth at any cost.

Because we are broken, what must we do to restore our innocence and all the promise we adored? Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole.

Cheers For Paramore:

I am finding out that maybe I was wrong
That I've fallen down and I can't do this alone

Stay with me, this is what I need, please?
Sing us a song and we'll sing it back to you
We could sing our own but what would it be without you?

I am nothing now and it's been so long
Since I've heard the sound, the sound of my only hope

This time I will be listening.
Sing us a song and we'll sing it back to you
We could sing our own but what would it be without you?

This heart, it beats, beats for only you
This heart, it beats, beats for only you

Also: The Almost [Amazing Because It Is, Dirty and Left Out], Paper Route [Enemy Among Us], Copeland [You Have My Attention], Ben Harper/Jack Johnson [With My Own Two Hands], Jimmy Eat World [Table For Glasses], Johnny Cash, Matisyahu, Lauryn Hill, As Cities Burn.

Thanks for your suggestions so far - lots of stuff I didn't know (or haven't heard of!). A friend even suggested 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica (with orchestra!) - may be a little extreme?!

I could go on and on with songs but sadly I'm a tad busy today. ha
But I do want to say one thing (which I may start a thread on latter), a trend I've seen in some churches lately, more so now then before, is in a sense, hatting anything secular (or even seeming secular) just because it doesn't directly say or involve God. An almost, I'm holier then thou, so what you say or do is evil.
I dont know, just something I though I should share.
