Sanctify

Ok, I'm going to be brave and be the first to post something! Here's a song I've been working on for a while but has never quite come together. I'd love your thoughts and advice on how I might finish it. Don't hold back, be real with me people!!!

It look's like you don't have Adobe Flash Player installed. Get it now.

Umm I really like this song. The bongos and violins really add to the song. Was this recorded in the studio? I'm not really a songwriter myself but I think the only thing it's lacking is a bit more meat to the verses. Apart from that it's pretty top notch. Nice one.

I think the song is good, and the lyrics are good. It needs some sort of bridge. That should be massive and it would finish it I reckon God bless Tom
John 3:16
Love the new website (am I biased?) and this is a great idea - so brave Al- can't imagine I would like to have my creativity open to comments. However this is an amazing testimony to your Grace! and hopefully will encourage others to take the plunge. Especially like the backing on this new song, and the subject is Brilliant.
Hey man, really love the new song, really different and 'fresh'. I agree with Tom, i think a bridge would be brilliant, really like the instrumentation you've used too :) Nice one, Gaz
Hi Al I've listened to it a good few times and to me it does seem unfinished but I think it's not far off and its sounds really promising (and I'm not into that "Christian lets say everything is great when its not" kind of thing!) At first i was like hmm is it the Spirit that Sanctifies us? then I read.. 1 Peter 1:2 ".....through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance." and in 1 Thess 2:13, "....God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth." so all good! :D I really like the almost "massive attack" vibe, as always your melody's are very singable and accessible for a congregation which is a real gift and something you obviously work on. More importantly I think the words are strong (yet simple) and I can really see people grabbing hold of this in ministry times to help them (us) in their (our) on going battle with sin, I too want to be Holy and set apart for God. Would it be an idea to post lyrics maybe even chords? I always find it easier to look at shaping a song when I can "map" it out with the words. thanks Chris. www.chrissayburn.com
Wow, realy good song the violins added to the song alot! ------------------------------------------------------------ www.crumpblog.co.uk

Al, Just a thought you could maybe look to do a bridge or a tag using the following verses.. 1 Cor 4:5 "....will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts" Job 12:22 "He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into the light." 1 Cor 3:13 "his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work." something on the lines of... "bring to light, the darkest things inside, expose the deepest sin in me, consume me with Your fire" Chris. www.chrissayburn.com
I am going to have to disagree with a comment made earlier as I think some of the language is complicated for some people that haven't been brought up in church mode- the word consicrate is a bit heavy for the first verse, but it is great that throughout the song you are explaining what the word santify means. A tag might be good to give the song a different feel for a bit, although I think that you need a strong bridge between the verse on the chorus - something a bit different that builds up. Having said that- I really like the fact that the last line of each verse leads into the chorus- it is a tough one...... For an early version of a song though, it is awesome- something I can only aspire to. God bless, Nick www.shoutlife.com/minichanic
Hi Al, I love it! I have listened to it several times today with my headphones on in the office :) How about at the 50seconds point (where the chorus starts the first time round), after "sanctify" go back and repeat the first verse (for more of a build up to the chorus and to let people take in the words?). Also, at some stage it would be great if the chorus could be sung in a louder...more...erm..."rough" way...that's not the right word but I hope my meaning's put across. May be to kinda get across a real desperation for God to sanctify you? God's certainly blessed you to write songs for Him...just keep going! God bless, Helen
Hi Al, this is really nice. Great vibe, and it's nice to have a worship song in a minor key for once! :) Just a couple of thoughts - I don't think this needs a bridge at all, it'd make it too busy and wordy for what is essentially a simple and beautiful song. I guess in a ministry time you've got the option of playing the verse chords as an instrumental (especially if the cellist is around!) then coming back in with a chorus, if you need to prolong the song. Not sure about 'test me in your glory' (if I heard the lyrics right), just doesn't seem to quite flow somehow - I'm not sure talking about the Spirit being 'in your glory' is quite right? Hearing the phrase 'in your glory' would always make me assume it was the Father who was being referred to. Also 'Test me' seems to lead towards psalm 139:23, but something like 'for you know me' would be more fitting if you are indeed referencing that verse. Finally I wonder about tweaking the chorus lyrics a bit so that 'holy fire' becomes a name for the Holy Spirit rather than an attribute he possesses? (Acts 2 etc). So it's more like: Sanctify Burn in me, O Holy Fire Till I'm sanctified Burning with the Holy Fire / this Holy Fire / or the original ? Might make it more direct? Looking forward to hearing the finished article on this site before too long! www.RESOUNDworship.org Free New Worship Songs
