Somehow I got to thinking about songs that address our worship as being a sacrifice to God. The only song I could think of was the old classic "We bring the sacrifice of praise", so I thought I'd take a stab at writing something. I've tried to tie in Romans 12 (offer your bodies as a living sacrifice" and David's desire to not bring something to worship God that hasn't cost him something. (2 Sam 24:24). Looking at it now I can see somethings I might want to change, but I'd welcome any input anyone could give!
Sacrifice
Jesse van der Meulen
With a sacrifice of praise
And humble offerings I come
To honour You
With an ever giving heart
And songs of love I come
And worship You
I won’t bring anything to worship You
That is not costing me
So here I am again
At Your altar with my praise
With words of truth
My surrendered life will come
To say You’re worthy and deserving
Of my devotion to Your name
I lay my life down here again
For I am the sacrifice of praise.
In view of all You’ve done for me
My life came through Your death
You want all of me
To not copy the world’s ways
Allow You to change my life
This is my holy sacrifice
Come and change the way I think
So I’ll know what to do
Oh how good it is
To know Your perfect will
It’s a costly sacrifice
In giving my whole life (repeat)
But it’s not too much to ask

Hey!
Your music kept cutting out, the furthest I got was the second verse before it stopped.
From what I heard it's very good. I actually have a question rather than a critisism.
What do you actuallly mean when you say "My surrendered life will come"
I've been thinking about it and can't get my head around the meaning. Did you just put that in because it sounded good, or is there a deep hidden meaning I'm missing?
Blessings

Hey Micah,
That's weird the music was cutting out, it's working fine for me. There's no hidden meaning to "my surrendered life will come". My intent was to link the singing of songs/ words of truth and the bringing of a life that's surrendered to God. Oftentimes it's through songs/ words that we remember the greatness of God and that to surrender our lives to Him in the most appropriate form of response. Thanks for the question! Does that help at all?
Jesse
