Hi,
I'm the youth worker in our church & co-lead our band which is mostly made up of teenagers. They've developed massively in the last 6 months and they're keen to go and hear some other bands lead worship. We'd rather travel out of area for this but I'm not sure where would be the best place to visit - does anyone have any recommendations? We're on the south coast in Dorset, so London is probably as far afield as we can realistically manage.

Hi Fran,
May I ask why you are wanting to see other bands leading? This isn't a question to try and trip you up I'm just trying to dig a little deeper.

I think it's partly that we've got a bit jaded, partly that we have some changes coming up and we'd like to see how other places manage. Also partly that most of our group are 14 and 15 and our church is the only church they've known. Other places locally aren't suitable for a number of reasons which I don't really want to specify on a public forum! We're working together to grow our faith and disciple each other, and most of us are off to Soul Survivor in the summer - but that is so different to local church that I'm not sure we can effectively take ideas back into our local situation. Agreed that won't necessarily happen in a different church situation either but then there isn't the festival high either. One of our lads went off to Hillsongs London and came back really enthused and I just wonder whether we need something similar as a group experience that we can relate back to more readily. Musings really.
I kinda lead our youthy (17-20ish) band thing down here (Plymouth, Devon too!) but we aren't doing much at the moment.
WE should be leading the morning worship soon... on the 4th i think, and also for the baptisms that evening. It's going to be an amazing day! (i'm not saying 'come over here on July 4th' - don't get me wrong, that'd be awesome... BUT i was just mentioning it and i have no idea why :P haha).
Also leading at this youth camp up in Birmingham in the summer (although that may be a bit far for you. If you like the sound of it though, go to www.upwardchallenge.org.uk to find out more!). It is a lot more like a 'local church' than SS, although it is quite different too.
