Quiet Times

I remember at a seminar at Soul Survivor Tim talking about quiet times and spending time to be intimate with God as part of maintaining spiritual passion...

I've been thinking about my own quiet times/personal time with God/Bible study, currently I read a passage from my Life Application Bible and see what the blurb says, and having a think and write about what I learn from it (and do a bit of journaling as well).

But then again it's good to keep things fresh, and not get into a lifeless routine where it becomes a chore rather than a pleasure!

So, what sort of things do you guys do? And have you got any ideas of how we can do things differently and keep our quiet times fresh?

Hi Kathryn,

The prayer group that I am a part of follows a routine/structure but with good reason. After the musical worship and praise we rest into a quiet time of worship and reflection. The contrast between the charismatic songs and people joyfully singing along or heartfully crying out and then the silence is startling. We simply allow time for nothing but the Spirit to move, silent meditation can be difficult to some but it also allows for those with prophetic gifts to share words or pictures that they feel would build up the group or speak to someone in particular. These are noted by one person and then reflected on (often a couple of weeks later to see what the Lord has been showing us steadily) and this is a really fruitful time of revelation and challenge for us. I personally love the silence in God's presence...always overwhelming and intimate, sometimes difficult and uncomfortable but one of many possible ways of giving God the glory He is due.

John 3.16 --> 1 Jn 3.16 This is love.
