King of Kings

Hi I have been working on some new songs/demos - this song has been going around my head for a few months and I have finally got round to recording a rough demo. Hope you find it useful - I decided to use Chorus chords for the end and use different lyrics instead of doing a middle 8. thanks Clive Capo 3 G. C. really good melody wise, simple and catchy. but honestly i find it hard to connect to the words personally, i thin kits just needs somthing extra, but something to build on defo!
love god. love life. love worship
Tim thanks for your comments- perhaps you could explain why you don't connect with the lyrics? There are some songs that say "Jesus I love" others that declare his majesty. I was reading a lot about Jesus being the lord and king of all of our lives, football, study, work, all of life. He is not only king of our lives but the world the cosmos. I am trying to lift our eyes from being me centered to Jesus centered- hope that helps Tim.

i don't really know?! at a first look they don't really say much to me personaly, but this is only my opinion i think its a has really good theme and is a good song overall, but in some places it just doesn't click, like for example 'thers's no-one who is higher' suggests that he is only of earthly origin rather than this amazing being from the highest of heaven....... but again this is only my thoughts
love god. love life. love worship
Hi Clive, Really like this. I actually really like the lyrics because they are so simple and God focused. I think its too easy for lyrics to loose meaning when we try to over complicate them using long metaphors and stuff. I can see this song being sung in a church context as the melody is so singable and the lyrics make it so easy to meditate on the awesomeness of God. Have you sung this in church yet? Can I ask why you decided not to go down the middle 8 road? You lyrics here are such a powerful statement and bringing in a fresh musical idea could just lift the whole song. At the same time middle 8 can get overdone a bit so I can see why maybe you are trying to avoid it... Have you thought about arrangement at all? I really like feel it has at the moment, its very peaceful and meditative. On the other hand have you thought about a bigger band arrangement? I think this could also sound really great with a much bigger full on sound. Just a thought. Over all really like it! Phil
the trouble with the (king of kings, lord of lords) and (yours in the power, yours is the kingdom) is they have been used so many times before. in fact they have been over used. (theres no one who is higher) and (we bow down) maybe co writing with someone might bring the song out more, or going deeper into the bible in your devotional time. or maybe some words might come out of your prayer time.
Thanks Mr Hatch - thanks for the comments I had thought and prayed about the lyrics and melody - some questions for you to consider how else do you describe the kingship of Christ? Do the psalms repeat themes and words is that bad? There is room for poetic flowery words in worship but i believe too many current worship CD's are not very singable in church. It also seems every other song has wooh wooh, hey, hey and sounds like kings of leon at the moment. I am a singer/songwriter and have been writing songs, about humanity, love, control, trust and many other things which I don't expect people to sing in church. you can check out www.myspace.com/themysterytent for more. I think there is a place for writing about the whole of life and having songs that chop and change pace and melodies, but if we want people to sing together we need cohesive songs. I think we need a place for simple truths with singable melodies. The great thing is this song does work in worship and people are singing it and so praise God for that.

Hi Phil Thanks for your comments and I am glad you agree that songs can speak simple truths that point to Jesus. At the moment the song is just a demo, so will work on a proper band version etc. Please feel free to try this song out and bring your interpretation to it too, let me know how it goes. i decided to not do the middle 8 in chatting with my friend Andy as it can be overdone but if it is live who knows may do something spontaneous. thanks Clive

Hey mate, I love the song. Its really ace, its still going round my head cause its so catchy and i really like it. Middle 8 could be nice to give it a bit of lift up and could be something that could really intensify the worship; but then again what you have is great, really like it. Ace song. :D
