Ok, so I am currently in year 12 in Australia (which is the last year of school)
Next year I probably won't be able to afford going to uni, so I need to get a job or something.
But I would also love to do a gap year program or internship or something.
But if I take a year off, it will be to save money. So the different programs that cost money just don't work.
I may be living in an utopian world, but is there some program, like an internship or gap year program, that
A) doesn't cost any money at all, but allows me time to earn money
B) only costs a little bit, but allows me time to earn money
C) sees what you do as work and actually pays you
I want to do something worthwhile, but when I need to be saving money, many options are ruled out!!
I wouldn't mind travelling overseas, but this too would cost money, which I really don't have!!
Or should I just wake up to myself and just get a full time job and spend any spare time doing mission in my home town and working with my Church?
Your help, ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
God bless
PS I just thought I would add (in case you didn't realise) that I want to do a gap year (if I have one) with a Christian group or program or organisation or Church of some sort! Any ideas, I'll love them!
And if you only know what is in UK or whatever, maybe explain how they work and I can look into something similar in Australia!
I am 17 and have been a Christian since I was 3, and writing songs not long after. I began leading worship a couple of years ago and am always looking for advice and help in becoming a better worship leader and making my relationship with God more intimat

Joe, I have definitely been praying and I'm just in the process of knowing what options are out there! If I don't know what the options are, I can know if there's something I might be called to do!!
Are you able to give me some ideas about your other ideas that fit into category A and B? I just want to research and be able to pray about it and everything!
Part of my problem is, I want to earn money to go to uni, but I would like to do an internship of some sort, rather than just working for a year! I would like to do something practical in that year and thought an internship would be good if internship and earn money to go to uni!! And I thought if it wasn't going to be too expensive I would also like to include travel, but I don't know how practical any of it is! :/
But any ideas you come across will be something for me to look into!
Tom, yes, I want to do something with my year and not just see it as a year to earn money, but a year that will actually be something I can learn from, and grow in!
I won't be 18 until february, 2012, and my school year doesn't finish until November anyway, so I would have to wait until september 2012 to consider it! :/
But it will be something I keep in mind! :)

Hi Tegan
You could look into the one they do at Trent Vineyard, and also see Matt Osgood's church in Twickenham:

It may be that both will require you to have a significant chunk of experience already, and so it might be more of a go-er after uni for you... additionally, a lot of interns tend to be post-uni aged, so if you're only 18, you might feel a bit under-aged. Not trying to put you off it, but just something that it would be good to be aware of.
In general, a lot of worship internships are filled internally, or through a relationship that you may have with people at that church. If you're just looking to do a standard church internship, that might be a bit easier.

I don't really mind if they aren't worship-based, as long as they are Christ-based! :)
Yeah, I get what you mean! :)
I am hoping to do something memorable and productive with my year to get ready for uni!

Hi Tegan
In that case, maybe the best thing is just to check in with some people on the forum. Do you want to do an internship in the UK or elsewhere? If the UK, then there are plenty of churches around here with internships.

Well, within Australia would be easier. But I am not shutting out the possibility of travelling.
I am looking into all options. Australia would also be cheaper, but well, we'll see where I end up!!
Still requiring ideas though!!

You can try a gap year overseas. There are many programs that include paid work, and travelling is always a wonderful way to enrich your culture.

Hi Tegan
I guess the first thing to do would be to pray about it, and if you feel God prompting you to do one, then go for an intern year somewhere.
There are definitely ones in the UK which fall into categories A and B (I mentioned in another thread that my old church's intern year is 3 days a week, unpaid, but doesn't expect you to pay either).
One idea might be that you work for a couple of years to get some cash together to fund any internship you want, if that's what you're after.
