I came across this amazing quote a while back and thought it might be helpful. It was written by John Wesley in 1761! “Sing lustily and with good courage, beware of singing as if half dead or half sleep but lift your voice with strength. Sing modestly, do not brawl so as to be heard above or distinct from the rest of the congregation that you may not destroy the harmony but strive to unite your voices together as to make one clear melodious sound. Above all sing spiritually, have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing him more than yourself or any other creature. In order to do this attend strictly to the sense of what you sing and see that your heart is not carried away with the sound but offered to God continually; so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approve here and reward you when he cometh in the clouds of heaven.” what a legend! |

Great quote! Wesley would have been aware of the older use of the word 'brawl' as a sword fight/dance between two swordsmen who knew how to parry each other's moves; but usually with the stronger swordsman winning (I believe this usage has been reprised in a new Wii game). Your quote fits in with the teaching given by Brian Doerksen at Westminster yesterday.
EPIC, Legend as you say :)

Been really inspired by this Brennan Manning quote lately:
"Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. God's love for you and His choice of you costitute your worth. Accept that and let it become the most important thing in your life."
I love God God loves me therefore I am successful
"beware of singing as if half dead or half asleep", mmmmmmmmm ive been in a few of those services!!!!!!!!!
