I think tim uses ultimate ears. He blogged about it ages ago It should be in the archives.
I am thinking about getting some for myself for use with my iPod. Anyone know what prce i would be loking at for that? I am looking cheepor does that not exist in IEM's??
These ultimate ears/westones are fairly expensive for us mere mortals if we want to custom ones....even the universal fit westones are pretty expensive!
I'm also interested in getting some IEM that double as everyday listening headphones!
I think Ultimate Ears and Future Sonics are the best molded ears. I have Sensaphonics and they sound great, but they're silicone and difficult to take out. As for generic in-ears (non-molded), the Ultimate Ears sound better than the Shure E-series. Fun stuff.
Hi guys, great thread! Don't listen to a thing Caleb says, for starters he's from California, and secondly he regularly poses as a dog named Clark on this site.
I've used Shures (E4c's) for a few years, but found that they tended to break after about a year, plus while they're really comfy to wear, they tend to be light on the bass, so I've found myself relying on a wedge to generate a lot of bottom end, which slightly defeats the point of using ears in a band context, which is generally to lower the stage volume and allow the engineer to better control the house mix.
I've switched to Ultimate Ears recently and have found them to be brilliant. They do a great model called UE Super Fi 5 Pro, which are not cheap at about £110, but have brilliant sound, great range and wire cables that can be moulded over your ears. They're great for iPod or monitoring.
I know loads of churches are starting to invest in good technology like IEM, and while they don't solve all your sound problems, they're definitely worth exploring as we've found them great. Bear in mind too that the sound guys need to know how to mix them too.
Perhaps we should do a WC session looking at this in the future?
I've got the Super Fi 5 Pros too - they are really good. Picked them up for about £90 including free shipping to the UK from www.soundearphones.com in the states. You just have to make sure you don't get run over by the car that you can't hear when you're walking down the street listing to your iPod!
We're releasing a whole bunch of freebies on iTunes for you to keep, including training videos, and all the New Songs as one bumper podcast, click Podcast below & enjoy!
Are you wanting to use them in a band setting or just for personal use?
If it for using them in a band there is a good seminar on IEM's from sovergn grace's WorshipGod conference
you can find it here: http://www.sovereigngraceministries.org/Event...

I just picked up some Westone UM2's about a month ago. They are great. Very comfortable in my ears and very good sound quality.
I don't really have much experience with any others so I can't really compare. It can also depend on how much you're looking to spend.
you can get some shure scl2's for about £50.

If i save up I may be able to stretch a bit more!
My SCL2's just arrived this morning. First fit is comfortable enough but yet to use them live obviously.
Let me know how it goes when you do get to use them live, they are highly interesting to me, at least until i can save up for some ultimate ears ones!

Which non custom ultimate ears would you recommend Caleb?

If I want to use these super.fi 5 Pro earphones as IEM's how are they connected to the sound desk?
Are they easy to use?
