Hey guys,

I wanted to ask for some advice concerning writing of songs.

I was recently doing a DTS in South aArica where i was labeled as 'the worship Leader'. This was funny as i didn't really play the guitar too good at the start. When i was out there i was given an amazing Taylor Guitar and since coming home have been playing daily.

So i got to the stage where i can play a lot more chords and i am slowly working on my scales but i am looking to write my own stuff and I've got some chord structures together but im struggling coming up with some lyrics.....

HELP!!!!!

hi shaun,

first things first, who on earth gave you a taylor?!! i would kill for a guitar as good as that!!

secondly, i would encourage you to be patient. songwriting is one of those frustrating things, it takes time and effort and isnt easy.

as for lyrics, dont force it. keep a note book of ideas that might come to you through sermons, reading the bible, reading books, watching films, situations in life etc. dont try and copy whats gone before, try and be original.

also as a start why not take a song that you know well like amazing grace and try and rewrite the words in your own way. that will get you started on the lyrics thing.

God bless,
gav.

God must really love you if you were given a Taylor. As far as writing.....You can sit down and 'mechanically' write a song....and that is what it will sound like. Just keep playing and singing praises......and LISTEN. When the Lord gives you the words....write them down. When you are singing a worship song.....begin to embelish.....add just a few lines of your own as you feel the 'inspiration'......'speak'...from your own heart, 'your own' praises to God....Just Thank Him..over and over and over for His gifts to you. You can 'write' some of these words down...or just be spontaneous and learn to sing His praises 'off the top off your head'....Open yourself to receive, knock on the door, HUNGER and THIRST for His righteousness and Love. If you earnestly hunger and thirst.....He has PROMISED......you WILL BE FILLED! If you beg Him.....to help 'you' to do HIS work for HIS Kingdom.....He WILL LOVE you for asking for this, and He WILL Deliver. He WANTS us to do this. Speaking the Name of Jesus Christ to people, and leading sous to His Salvaion is the most honorable thing we will ever do in this lifetime. Those who 'choose.....to do this work of the Kingdom are Holy and Blessed. Pray, and Ask in His Name.

......that whosoever believes in Him should not perish.
