Hi Guys

I asked Paul Oakley once 'How does He stay humble before God?' his reply was 'He has his ways!'

He certainly does!

I was washing up the dishes on Alpha once and I sensed God speaking into my heart. He said

'I want you to wash up like you play your guitar and I want you play your guitar like you are washing up.'

Then He gave me a job in a fish mongers washing up for three years and went to work on my heart.

It would be great to here your thoughts on how God has his way in your hearts, in regards to humility.

This is the one to Whom I will look, he who is humble and contrite in spirit.
Isaiah 66:2

I realise even talking about this subject can be challenging but I think it is benefical.

Thanks

God bless

mark

Great topic mate,

I recommend a book called "humility" by C.J Mahaney...
It has some really great points in to help you stay humble...it's something I would argue you have to work on it's not just pulling the right faces at the right time...it's constantly checking the state of your heart and asking why you do what you do.

If i'm really honest about 3 years ago I was once part of a network called Christianbands where similar to this you could share songs, I was new to songwriting and pretty early in my faith, God really challenged me as when I looked at my heart motives, what started off genuine ended up trying to write songs to get recognition and self worth from them more than to glorify God and equip the church

So much so I cancelled my account and didn't rejoin till I had worked on these things (took about a year!)

Humility has to be a KEY factor of being a worship leader, how can we ever try and steal glory from the King?

Looking forward to hearing other people's thoughts.

i've been dealt with gently and roughly, but its always perfect with hindsight, sometimes several years after the events.

i love what i've heard cs lewis and todd bentley say about humility:

its true dependence on him and obedience rather than a bowed head and modest self deprecation just to show other how humble we are.

another wise thing i've heard is that we are dealt the perfect balance of love and fear by God to open our eyes.

as broken men, pride springs eternal, we can only go the cross daily, hourly, even minute by minute and put off those shabby old clothes...
