Ideas for Worship Team Meetings?
We're gathering our worship team for monthly meetings, and I wondered if anyone had any ideas? --- Hi everyone, Happy Easter! Looking for a bit of inspiration here. Until recently the core of our worship team have been meeting as a house group, the meetings comprising of prayer, Bible study, socials etc. Now we are commencing meeting up in general house groups, but with the worship team still meeting twice a month, one for practicing and one for having some team time which is the one I'm responsible for. In our house groups we are having some extensive focused teaching from the elders for the next four months, so I didn't really want to bring teaching as such because I don't want to detract from what they are bringing. I wanted the new group time to be a real time of refreshing, a time just to pause, to rest (had the word "sabbath" in my mind if that's not being too nerdy-spriritual!) something really enjoyable. The goal is to have these times once a month that will really fill us up and send us out, something that will help us look forward to our leading and playing. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas. It doesn't have to be anything new or big and clever, but it would be good to hear your experiences. Thank you, Leon
something we did a while back which was helpful was to publically say what we appreciated about each and every member of the group to encourage them. we also prayed for each person as a team aswell. plus theres not many things more edifying than singing together as a worship team in a small group. hope that helps? God bless, gav.
Some of the best and most worthwhile team nights I've had involved other people in the church praying for us. There's nothing better! You could possibly set up the room as a 24/7prayer-type place with cushions, low lighting, scriptures on walls, scribble paper etc etc to give the team a quiet place to come to one night? We've also had great nights of percussive worship, sponateous stuff, and just simply turning up to see what God's got in store! We've got a night like that coming up this Easter Sunday and I can't wait to see what happens! Vics
Guest speakers are great. We have two worship group meetings a term and we have a speaker to come and lead worship and speak to us. Just as an opportunity to recieve. I guess if you know a likeminded church locally you could get their worship team/pastor to come and lead worship and speak.
I think members of the team giving testimony, sharing their story of they came to faith etc.. can really help deepen understanding of each other and help build community. Here are a few ideas... Eat together... Have fun!! Prayer Meditations, Have some 'Kingdom' boards / sheets up - a place where people can thank God for what he is doing and dream big how they long to see Him move in the future... God in everything - get everyday items we use day in day out and share how they remind you of God Accountability with each other Write a song / poem / lament together Prepare something that would serve another ministry in the church
Thanks guys - all really helpful. keep 'em coming!
This is a great topic and something I've needed help on lately. In theory, we gather as a team each month and rotate between a focus on spiritual development, leadership development, and musical development. For spiritual development we've taken a day and taught on the trinity, we've talked about the heart of leading worship, values for our worship, sacrifice, etc. For leadership development, I often will cast vision, bring in a guest speaker to share their thoughts on worship. Music development we'll do workshops of some kind. I've had a band of professionals come and lead worship and then walk through the various instruments. However, I have lost momentum lately and I am also in need of fresh ideas.
just a quick update to say our spontaenous night was incredible....!!
When I was back at Trent Vineyard, there used to be quarterly worship gatherings for all those involved in worship in the church. With the worship teams and dozens of home groups, that was a lot of people! We did a Saturday morning thing - big greasy fry up, and then would do different sessions. Sometimes it would be technically-focused, other times on singing, other times on theology... just a mix according to what you felt was appropriate. We also buddied up with people just to have other worshippers to bounce off. Eg. I met up with a younger guy called Jonny who's now helping to lead stuff on Sundays back at Trent. There were some really fruitful relationships happening through that. HTH... Joe "One, two, three, here we go..."

Here's an idea to get to know your worship team a little better musically, and to grow together as a team: Gather at a house with a CD player/laptop. Provide tea and cake, with perhaps some chocolate. Ask everyone to bring: 1. A favourite worship song. 2. A favourite secular song. Each person gets to play the songs to the team and explain what they like about them. Then the rest of the team also provide feedback on the song: Style Tempo Melody Lyrics Arrangement Use of instruments Intro Ending Vocals Harmonies I would give each song a play followed by upto 15 minutes of discussion. Ensuring each member of the team is given chance to provide feedback. You may need to do this over a few sessions. It's a really good way of understanding the spectrum of styles and sounds that appeal to different people, and to appreciate the variety you have in your worship team. It's a real learning experience for worship leaders too! One thing to underline at the beginning is that everyone can and should share their views. People are allowed to "hate" songs that other people "love" without offending them etc. I'd love to hear if anyone tries this and how it goes!
