Wow, it's been a while since I've posted on here!
I am currently thinking about putting a new pickup in the bridge position of my tele. I currently have a seymour duncan little '59 in there, but I'm finding it to be very plastic sounding, it doesn't give the sound much space to breathe, and has a very very bright sound to it, completely out of balance with my neck ( a seymour duncan quarter pound). I'm either looking at replacing both, or just getting a new bridge. Depending on 1) whether I can afford 2 new ones, and 2) whether or not I want to replace the quarter pound.
Any advice on companies and pickups would be appreciated. I've had a brief look at bare knuckle pickups. Mainly their "The Boss" pickup.
Oh also, If it's any help, the pickup will be paired with an Orange AD30 amp.
Thanks
at the low price end of the scale, guitarfetish.com do good pups at silly low prices.
I would give you amp settings a lot of attention as well. The guitar accounts for less of the tone than it is given credit for and you may well get an improved tone by lifting the EQ.
BB King's setting is to run his hand along the top of a Fender Twin so every dial is at max. This will eventually destroy various bits but then you are BB King so they give you another while that is being repaired!
Isn't there some sort of magic setting for Fender amps? I remember someone telling me that you can set bass & mids to 6, and roll back the treble even further and it sounds cool...
Great point from Clive - it's usually the case that the electric tends to punch through the mix in the upper mids a bit, so having a think about what the other guys in the band are playing and finding the gap will help loads.
The guitarfetish (GFS) pickups are nice ones, and certainly a couple of them are very good too. I think someone here tried Irongear also, and reported that they liked them. I can only speak of what i've tried!

I use Bare Knuckle Country Boys in my Tele and they sound great so would definitely give my reccomendations for them. They are clean enough that you can run an amp completely crystal clear if you want, but if you dig in then they have a fantastic bite. Work really well overdriven (amp or pedal) as well.
Get some proper Fender Pups back in there you crazy Sheila! Get your bum back to the chilly UK and I'll get you a nice set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pups at Andertons Staff rates.
Not sure noiseless are the way forward, unless noise is indeed a problem...

I use P-90's, not double wound so they are "noisy"; I understand some people's complaints, but I think the noise is just part of the charm. Just interjecting my tangent 0.02

Don't bother with the BKPs. If you want to go thr pricey (new) route, try Bulldog pickups. Hayden Minnett works for Matamp and used to build pickups with Tim at BKP. His prices are slightly lower, but more to the point he'll make you whatever you want in terms of customising things. I've got a pair of his pickups in my JD Tele... I got a 67 Special Strat neck, and a slightly overwound Classic T bridge. Very happy with them... they just do the job.
The other route is to get something from Tonerider... much cheaper, but really good & couple of guys I know have bought their Tele models and been pretty happy with them.
