GLORIOUS KING - christmas worship song

Here is a song I wrote that has worked well at Christmas. I often will do this song and then bring in the chorus of "The First Noel", and then go back to the extended chorus. Verse 1: King, glorious King Came from heaven to bring Peace on earth, hope for man Through a pure, humble birth Chorus: Who compares to Your glory Who can fathom Your ways Who can shine through the darkness Bringing life full of grace Jesus, You are the glorious King Jesus, You are the glorious King Verse 2: King, glorious King Came to heal and redeem Gave Your life, sacrificed So that we may be free Chorus (extended): Who compares to Your glory Who can fathom Your ways Who can shine through the darkness Bringing life full of grace There is nothing, There is no one Who is worthy of praise Jesus, You are the glorious King Jesus, You are the glorious King Ending tag: You alone are King Jesus, You alone are King

Hi mate, wow what can I say other than amazing song, the lyrics are biblically sound and have a fresh feel about them, the melody is really singable and easy to pick up you have kept everything really syncopated well. It's great to have a Christmas song that you could use as part of a flowing set rather than "stand alone" songs if people kind of get what I mean, I can imagine it going into a gentle reflective version of "o come let us adore Him" Oh just one thing stood out a bit was the lyric: "There is nothing, There is no one Who is worthy of praise" I know what your saying but It seems like it could maybe be strengthened with something like "There is nothing, There is no one Far more worthy of praise" (or something like that!) Anyway that's probably just me!! You have a real gift and we at our church have benefited from your time and wisdom. Chris.
Hey Chris, Thanks so much for the kind words. Yeah, I struggle with that line too because it only works in context. I'm trying to say there is no one worthy except Christ. So, by saying "far more worthy" would actually turn it positive, unless that line was the start of a new thought. Does that make sense? I really appreciate the feedback.
Unless I'm missing something, which is very possible...
Erm.. I think so to the understanding question :) (it's time for bed for me i'm a bit frazzled!) EDIT - I've deleted the paragraph that was here as it didnt even make sense to me! Anyways I'll have a think and see if anything jumps out, and im sure others will have some ideas burning away... or can tell me to shut up as it's fine as it is! :D
yeah, let me know if you think of something that helps it make more sense. thanks!
Lovely song, Caleb. Are you happy for people to use it cos it's always a struggle finding new Christmas stuff? I have two suggestions: 1) What about 'who's more worthy of praise'? At the slow tempo I think that would work. 2) I'm a sucker for contemporary gospel harmonies and it seems to me that you could give the song a real lift by bringing in a chromatic bassline for the extra bit in the extended chorus like this: There is (Am) nothing, There is (Am/G#) no one Who's more (Am/G) worthy of (D13 - play once and let it ring) praise ( Each chord comes before the word against which it sounds - sorry to write it like this but I couldn't get it to line up otherwise!) You could even change the melody slightly to go up to a D on 'worthy'. Loved it! Ian

I really really like it, it is very difficult to write a Christmas song that is original and doesn't repeat what has been done before but still sharing the important message. I have tried and failed on many occasions. This song really ministers to me and I love the arrangement. As Ian suggests- I feel that slightly altering the bass notes of the chorus on the second chorus would give it a slightly different feel because otherwise there is a danger of repeating it for repetitions sake. I was also playing around with sung harmonies over the top of the chorus which I also think would lift it on the repeat. Overall I loved it and want to introduce it to my church in time for Christmas! Nick
Thanks Ian. Yeah, you are welcome to use it.
Hi Caleb, This is a lovely song. Do you have any music or chord sheets for the song that you could share with us. I got a bit lost a bit in the discussion earlier about There is nothing, There is no one Who is worthy of praise Could you explain it again please. I'm just worried that it could leave folk a bit confused. Other than that, what a great song. Thanks for sharing it. God Bless Neil
Yeah, I do have a chart, you can e-mail me at worship@rockharbor.org for it. I am saying who can compare to His glory... The answer is that there is nothing, and there is no one worthy of praise, except God.
