Brian was amazing on Saturday evening. God uses his obedience to help connect others to his awesome power. I hope that the seeds that had fallen upon his people fell on well cultivated soil. Frances Chan had some interesting points and for the person that was being called to this way of living, that's great that one can be obedient to God's calling and sacrifice. We are all called to pick up our crosses and follow Christ daily but I don't think God calls us all to be radical followers in the way Frances describes. |

Interesting that you say that. It's something I have been debating with myself since reading 'Living as an Ordinary Radical'.
Is it that God doesn't call us all to live that radically, or is it because we don't have the faith in God that He will support us if we all decide to live our lives that radically?
I thought Frances Chan was fantastic in the afternoon & evening! I thought he held nothing back and was both challenging and inspiring! He has certainly made me think and reflect further which can only be a positive thing. Any speaker who inspires even one of us to persue a closer relationship with God, must be a positive thing!
I think the lifestyle Frances was talking about IS for all of us, especially with reference to the way we prioritise the spending of our money. He is in a great position in his church where he can trust the people around him to look after his family if anything should happen to them (i'm referring to the part where he was talking about having life insurance) but not all of us are in such an advantageous position in our churches, although I do believe that he described a radical model of how the church should be.
As for Brian, I don't mean to be critical because he is obviously hugely obedient to God's calling on his life and has an amazing heart to see the people of God worship- but I found it slightly hypocritical that he had said in his session that afternoon about not using more than one or two of your own songs, then proceeded to lead a time of worship using mostly his own songs.
Problem is that having said all that, if you had seen Brian on the bill and come, would you be upset that he hadn't sung all his own songs? It's a hard line that visiting musicians have to tread - I know I've been to Delirious led worship sessions that have been much the same - people have come to see the band, but they aren't just doing a concert.
I agree with what Brian said about choosing songs for regular times of worship, but I think Saturday night was more of an offering (a concert) of his own songs of worship - not that it takes anything away from their value - but it did amuse me that the song visuals came with title pages - even before the band had played a single note of the next song!
Also much as I'd like to think the "Radical" lifestyle Frances spoke of is not for everyone, I have a sneaking suspicion (and a sinking feeling) that it is. Time to re-evaluate my spondoolies - Do I really NEED UE5s, or will E3s do instead? Hmmmm...
If you mic the kick drum, God will come.
I really found it captivating and interesting. I hugely enjoyed the worship. It has to be said that the brain's drummer made the evening for me. He just looked so into it and i found it amazing to connect to God through his playing
