I'm looking for a new guitar to play in our band and i was woundering what would be the best one for about £300-£500 budget. At the moment i play a Fender Telecaster.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
Ian

A fender telecaster :P

Jokes, erm you can get a G&L tribute (either ASAT which is like a tele, or the other one which is like a strat) in that price range i think.

Also worth looking into epiphone Les Pauls.......

It all depends on what you want the guitar to do and how to sound and your style etc.

You can get awesome results by simply upgrading cheaper guitars, and £350-£500 as you suggest is a great price range to do that in.

What are you trying to do/get, and what is the rest of the rig? It may be worth spending more on a decent valve amp etc.

Since you’re currently using a Tele I assume you want a more full sound that lends itself to rhythm work. I’d check out Godin guitars on eBay, pretty affordable. The LG model is a good choice, they have other models which you can read specs on at their website, do a google search for “Godin Guitars”.

The Squire brand from Fender is not a bad choice either. A Stratocaster would have a more mellow sound, and be quite affordable.

If you could swing it, hollow bodied electrics are good for rhythm work. The Ibanez articore(sp?) and the epiphone dot are good options.

as a bit on a ibanez fan-boy, i'd go for either the ART-500, or an S520EX

or any RG series is gonna be awesome, depends what you want in a guitar though...

You could replace the pick-ups on your tele - the fatbody on the neck gives a nice 'strat' sound' and if you replaced the bridge you could add a humbucker at the bridge position. I have seen this done to give a great all-round guita - good for leads but also chunky enough for fat rhythms. The tele design (I think it is because of the 'through-strings' on the bridge) avoids the humbucker being too muddy. You could do all this with new hardware for under £300.

If i had £500 to spend on a guitar i'd get a fender '72 reissue deluxe... sweet tele charm with dual humbucking power... possibly the prettiest guitar ever.

I'm not a fan of the deluxe, if i was to get a humbucking tele it would be the '72 thinline reissue.

Plus Rawli, I was at Stafford Elim about 10 years ago (I was only 8)!

if you're used to the tele sound, you might find going for twin humbuckers too much of a change..

Personally I'd try and find something second hand with a coil tap in it, that way you get best of both worlds, or consider something with PAF's in

you could get a fairly nice PRS SE for that sort of money!
