It's March! Tim & Al become audio tour guides for the big London conference this month, listen to new song 'God Of All' by Ben Cantelon. Tim interviews Al exploring the key values of worship, followed by an arm wrestle!
The lyrics and arrangement of this song has chahnged slightly since recording it. Here are the recorded lyrics, with updates in brackets:
DESPERATE FOR MORE - Phil. 3:12-14, Ps. 51
Teach me of Your ways oh God
Lift my gaze (eyes) to You
Let my will be one with Yours
In everything I do
I'm pressing on not giving up
I'm seeking truth justice and love
In all the earth
I'm desperate for more of You my Lord
Teach me of the Father's heart
And purify my own
Jesus take the highest place
You and You alone
I'm pressing on not giving up
I'm seeking truth justice and love
In all the earth
I'm desperate for more of You
I'm crying out not holding back
Your face I seek and one thing I ask
With all my heart
I'm desperate for more of You
More of You
More of You
I'm desperate for more of You
More of You
I'm desperate for more
Spirit come and dwell in me
Change me from within
Lead me into righteousness
And save me from my sin (and keep me from all sin)

Sorry about my singing; I'm having lessons now!! :-P
In terms of arrangement, I now do the first half-chorus in the higher octave and go straight into the 'more of You...' refrain after verse 3. I always felt the song went on a bit, but the new arrangement seems to remedy that.
I'd greatly appreciate ANY feedback - God bless!

Hi Neil (from another Neil),
Sorry you had to wait ages for some feedback, I know how frustrating that feels.
I love your words and the feeling of your chorus... really powerful stuff you should definately keep that as it is.
The thing for me is that the melody in the verse is pitched really low which makes it hard to sing. No major issues with that in itself but maybe try a a couple of things if you're open to experimenting with it a bit.
I guess your options would be to either lift the key of the whole thing by a tone or two, or to experiment with a new verse melody if lifting it takes the chorus out of reach.
It's definately a pattern in modern worship songs to have a massive vocal range between verse, chorus & bridge sections, which is fine if you sing like Hughes, Tomlin or Cantelon. But for us mere mortals, I guess it's just a case of setting the key and arranging songs to bring out the best in our voices and make it sound and feel good to sing.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tip, Neil - I'll experiment with all of the above!!

hey neil. good job on this. you might try singing this in a higher key. it might at some energy to it. i think you've got a lot to work with here...bring it up a key or 2 and the bridge will explode. be encouraged...
