I wrote this song years ago. Below are the lyrics.
The Lord is my strength the reason for my song
The Lord is my strength the reason I go on
What a great victory was yours
You defeated everyone who oppoesed
All of your Grace and Mercy
Your miracle workers and all you set free
Cuz there's no other way no other path
If the people don't turn they'll face your wrath
Cuz there's no other way no other path
Which leads to you
Cuz there's no other way no other path
If the people don't turn they'll face your wrath
And I want them to know you
The Lord is my light my light the One who guides my path
The Lord is my light my light I'm leaded by the Lamb
ENJOY!!!!

Your opinion is much appreciated. I wrote this song over 10 years ago with a buddy of mine, and recorded it 5 years ago, figured I'd throw it on the forum and see what happens. This song is a bit more performance than worship admittedly, so the lyrics were put together to sound good with Biblical principle in mind. Let me explain and defend your points
1) In the book of John, Jesus very clearly states how we inherit eternal life
John 14:1-6 and John 3:16
Jesus is the only way.
Gods wrath, although harsh, is still true. God displayed his wrath upon the Earth numerous time in the Old Testament, specifically the flood.
2) The word describes God's victory as past tense. He has already won, considering he exists beyond time and measure, He was, is, and is to come; this he has win, in winning, and will win...use either tense and you're correct.
3) Think of this part as list off who and what people have opposed
You defeated everyone who opposed:
-your grace
-your mercy
-your miracle workers
-all you set free
Miracle workers is not past tense...present tense, like 'I am a worker' or 'they are workers'
4) I'm led by the lamb doesn't go with the tune
Figured a detailed criticism is worthy of a detailed response. I have no plans of selling or performing this song so I won't be correcting it soon. I appreciate your thoughts and will keep it in mind if I ever do perform it.
Many Thanks and blessings to you :)
"4) I'm led by the lamb doesn't go with the tune"
But 'I'm leaded by the Lamb' is grammatically incorrect! How about 'I'm led on by the Lamb'?

Love your voice & guitar playing. The arrangement was fresh & the song was delivered with some great energy.
Generally I liked the song except:
1. Hated the title & the use of 'cuz' in the song. The title does nothing to convey anything about what the song is about. It wouldn't make me want to check it out.
2. 'You defeated everyone who opposed
All of your Grace and Mercy
Your miracle workers and all you set free'
This verse is very confusing (as pointed out by another reviewer). Your explanation makes sense, but a song should be written so it can be understand without the writer having to explain it - especially worship songs.
3. "I'm led by the lamb doesn't go with the tune" this isn't a good enough reason to to use mangled English. Rewriting is the cure.
Anyway, enjoyed checking out your song & hope to hear more from you in the future.

I like the I'm led on by the lamb suggestion. I'll change it to that for future recording.
Thanks for giving such a detailed response. The intention wasn't to make you defensive and I don't think you've really understood what I've said!
1) I'm not denying your theology. The 'sheep and the goats' point is orthodox too.
2) What I'm trying to say here isn't about your theology or the tense in 'What a great victory was yours', just the fact that musically the stress needs to fall on 'great', 'victory' or 'yours' and not on 'was'. I was always taught that sung melodies should ideally follow the patterns and stresses of speech so that the meaning is clear unless the intention of the writer is to draw attention towards a particular word. I don't think your intention is to stress 'was' in this context? As Praisemaker says above, clarity is really important in worship songs.
3) It's the word 'defeated' that is in the past tense. As the rest seems as though it might flow from that line, it puts all of the rest in the past tense, hence my confusion.
Hope that helps. God bless,
Ian
