Hi,
Can someone point me in the right direction with regards to cello music for worship songs. I don't really have a clue when it goes past guitar chords, so I would appreciate any assistance.
Dan
Play off the standard music that comes with the soul survivor books (RH line of the piano for melody), or, try reading the LH line and pick out a harmony from the bass line?
I know this is an old post, but if you still need help with Cello in worship, drop me a line! I play Cello in worship, if your cellist is good, it can be quite a versatile instrument. It can be a bass when you need it to be, fill in harmonic lines "in the middle" of the range/mix, or pierce through with melodic/counter melody lines.
Very useful in "ministry" time when you just want something quiet/reflective etc.

Hi Celloman
Thanks for re-visiting the thread!
My cello player is at the beginner stage but any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. I really see the value adding the instrument to the band. We also have a young violin player too.
Thanks
Dan
Hi Dan, if they're beginners, just get them playing root notes (like the bass would) to start with. As they progress, look at playing counter melodies, riffs etc
A song like "Our God" (tomlin), the version that has the strings at the start (Passion Album?) is great, if you do it in Em/G, its really easy for the cello/violin to play the opening riff, and its a great song/riff to open a set with.

ps If you want to Mic your cello, I highly recomend the DPA mics for Cello, clips on/off in seconds (to the strings just after the bridge), just plug into your XLR lead, apply Phantom power and vavavoom, no more feedback, true sound, sweet!
it ain't cheap, but worth the money if you want a beautiful true sound without hassle or feedback!

Hi mate,
the only thing i can think of is if you use the music from worship books? the spring harvest books have sheet music in, and the survivor song books have a cd with them that has sheet music and other things on them too. I am guessing that your cello is in C? in which case the sheet music in the books is going to be find, otherwise you may have to transpose it which isn't to bad. However if you want specific songs then you can go on the worship together website and then buy it of there, but often new songs will be in a worship song book like spring harvest, or even older ones in worship today.
How this helped?
Matt
