Budget acoustic pickups?
I'm looking for an acoustic pickup for under £30 (i know it's not that much money but i'm a broke teenager) for one of my acoustic guitars, any suggestions?? :)
Hey Ruth, Personally I haven't got a clue, but if you haven't found it already there's a big topic here that might be helpful (not specifically budget ones though.) http://www.worshipcentral.org/forum/topic/acoustic-pickups Thought I'd throw that out there in case you hadn't seen it :-) Michael
For my old guitar I bought a fishman neo-D for about £35 on ebay. For some reason it was alot cheaper to ship it in from the states than to buy over here. That system served me well for a couple of years and gave a fairly good sound for the price. After a whille I started using a reverb pedal to enhance the sound slightly.
Hey :) i'll check out that thread :D I've heard a lot about fishman, i'll search them on ebay :D thanks!!
Check this out as well. http://www.dangleberrymusic.co.uk/p-175-boston-acoustic-guitar-pickup-internal-piezo-transducer-bug-for-acoustic-guitars.aspx As long as you are happy to drill a hole where your guitar strap pin goes, this works great, and no dragging cables at the front of your guitar. Neil
I've been looking at those pickups on ebay, i like the look of them...but i'm not really a technical sound expert....(ask the guys in my worship team and they'll agree!!) i might go for that..... I already have a pickup hole drilled in the guitar because it's second hand so the person who had it before me must've used a pickup with it too...(:
Hi Ruth, There is nothing to installing these, takes about five minutes if you've already got a pickup hole. They come with stickyback plastic on the transducer, and it just sticks inside your guitar (near the bridge). It sounds a bit better, and it lasts a bit longer though, if you use a glue gun to stick them. Best thing to do is to use the sticky and with trial and error, find the best place inside the guitar to place it, then use a glue gun to firmly put it in place. Neil
+1 on the Fishman. I've used one before, and it's not bad. I've also just come across a company in the USA called JJB electronics who do a soundboard transducer - $50 delivered to the UK, prewired with an endpin jack. It's a similar thing to the device that Neil recommended, but it's much better as it uses 3 transducers rather than one. It is a little fiddly to install as you have to superglue them to the underside of your bridge (it does sound much better that way), but if you're patient it's quite simple. They're comparable to K&K pure western pickups - check out the reviews on Harmony Central. They really are very very good. Just installed a set today. Bit bright, but a nice natural sound if you tame the treble a bit. Absolute steal for $25 posted to the UK (I got mine without the endpin jack socket as I soldered it to my existing socket). Big thumbs up for them. You don't need to be technical to install them, just patient. If you're worried about it, just give me a shout and I can talk you through it, alternately get a friend to do it. Joe "One, two, three, here we go..." www.myspace.com/josephhargreaves

They look quite good, i'll probably go for either the JJB ones or the Dangleberry one....shall get my brother to look at them (he's a bit of a techy). I'm just wondering if i can get anything that will let me change the volume (and other EQ settings...but volume on it's own would be fine) of the pickups without me having to drill loads of holes in my guitar because i think it's quite old (E-ros Raven...does anyone know about the make/type...i googled it and not much came up but what did suggested that it's pretty old...) Thankyouuu!!
Hi Ruth Definitely go for the JJBs if you're going that way. I can talk you through the installation procedure... Joe "One, two, three, here we go..." www.myspace.com/josephhargreaves

BTW, the 2nd thing you mention is a preamp. Yes, you can get them, although a good one is reasonably expensive. You can get an internal one to drill into the side of your guitar, or you can get an external box which you plug your guitar into. Tell me how much you want to spend, and I can tell you some of the options. Joe "One, two, three, here we go..." www.myspace.com/josephhargreaves
