We Shall Not Be Shaken
With the release of Matt Redman's new album 'We will not be shaken' I thought I'd take the liberty of writing a short review. Now I know I'm biased, but honestly this is a fantastic album. Here is a collection of wonderful new songs that will no doubt breathe fresh life into the worshipping church. This is Matt at his insightful and poetic best, mixed with some incredibly hooky and memorable melodies. Great songs, great themes and exciting production - I highly recommend this album.
The main themes of the album are God's faithfulness, His mercy and His glory. Perhaps familiar themes but Matt as ever brings a refreshing perspective and wonderful words that bring alive the wonder of God. For me the standout song is 'Through it all,' a brilliant song on God's faithfulness. With each listen my heart is stirred and strengthened as this song reminds and declares the promise and reality of God's unfailing faithfulness.
Another classic is 'You alone can rescue.' There's a wonderful simplicity in this song, which I can see working great in large congregational settings as well as with 12 people crammed into a living room for small group.
The anthemic 'Gloria' is a really exciting new song. It soars and connects. One other stand out track is ‘Remembrance (Communion Song)’. This is a beautiful song looking at the celebration of communion. It explodes with the bridge, 'Dying you destroyed our death. Rising you restored our life.' Absolutely amazing truth that makes the worship of Christ irresistible.
These songs are congregational and hugely accessible. The production is massive - I particularly love the use of group vocals for the choruses.
Go get a copy of this album. Not only will it fuel your personal devotional life of worship, but you will also find some great new songs to use at church.
