We Shall Not Be Shaken

We Shall Not Be Shaken

7 Sep 2009

With the release of Matt Redman's new album 'We will not be shaken' I thought I'd take the liberty of writing a short review. Now I know I'm biased, but honestly this is a fantastic album. Here is a collection of wonderful new songs that will no doubt breathe fresh life into the worshipping church. This is Matt at his insightful and poetic best, mixed with some incredibly hooky and memorable melodies. Great songs, great themes and exciting production - I highly recommend this album.

The main themes of the album are God's faithfulness, His mercy and His glory. Perhaps familiar themes but Matt as ever brings a refreshing perspective and wonderful words that bring alive the wonder of God. For me the standout song is 'Through it all,' a brilliant song on God's faithfulness. With each listen my heart is stirred and strengthened as this song reminds and declares the promise and reality of God's unfailing faithfulness.

Another classic is 'You alone can rescue.' There's a wonderful simplicity in this song, which I can see working great in large congregational settings as well as with 12 people crammed into a living room for small group.

The anthemic 'Gloria' is a really exciting new song. It soars and connects. One other stand out track is ‘Remembrance (Communion Song)’. This is a beautiful song looking at the celebration of communion. It explodes with the bridge, 'Dying you destroyed our death. Rising you restored our life.' Absolutely amazing truth that makes the worship of Christ irresistible.

These songs are congregational and hugely accessible. The production is massive - I particularly love the use of group vocals for the choruses.

Go get a copy of this album. Not only will it fuel your personal devotional life of worship, but you will also find some great new songs to use at church.

It is a really great album! Two personal favorites are You alone can rescue, and Remembrance. But the whole album is great!
Can't wait to have a listen of this one. "The main themes of the album are God's faithfulness, His mercy and His glory." What better themes could we sing about?! Phil http://www.worshiptherock.com http://www.hemustincrease.com

My personal favourite is 'my hope'. I love the understated recording of this, which somewhat contradicts the rest of the album - also has some great chord ideas. I also find it's lyrics comforting and encouraging - To know that God is there no matter what is happening in the world - It feels like a lot is falling apart right now, whith the economic situation, wars, poverty etc, and to know that God is there and is someone we can rest in and trust is amazing. All in all a great album though. Andy
Personally i think it is a okay album, very well produced - although there is no song that made me want to pick up my guitar and work it out, and sing it at Church next week, which in my view is important to a worship album. However, there are some great moments that i keep rewinding to hear again!
I just got the album and think it's great. I love how you got other worship leaders to help with some of the songs. God Bess. Jamie
