Raising Up Worship Leaders

Raising Up Worship Leaders

22 Feb 2010

We have the huge privilege of interviewing two exceptional leaders, Nicky Gumbel and Mike Pilavachi at Worship Central London, March 12-13. Primarily we'll be looking at how you identify and raise up worship leaders in the local church context.

We want this keynote session to be interactive so would love you to send through your questions. What do you want to hear about; anything from leadership to spirituality, envisioning a team to keeping personal focus. Effectively if you had half an hour in a room with these two men, what would you ask?

We'll be recording this interview so any who can't make the conference can enjoy the insights and wisdom shared.

So please send through any comments, questions and suggestions. We'll try and include them in the interview.

I think I'd ask the following: 1) What do you see as the role (or roles) of a worship leader? 2) What do you look for in a worship leader? 3) In your church, how would you know if your worship leader was doing a good job? 4) Can the experiences of raising up leaders at HTB (a large and resource rich church) be extrapolated to the "average" local church?
Just a question in response to this which has been make me think a bit about worship leading, If we have the idea that we are being called to lead worship whether it be on guitar or just vocally, should we be waiting for someone else to recognise that we potentially have the gift of worship leading or should we be constantly seeking to lead worship (at the risk that we may bug our own church music/worship co-ordinator beyond belief) Because I have been told by a few people that I have a great voice and should be leading worship, however if thats right, how do I or should I go about getting noticed? I just feel as if my gift (if I actually do have it) is being wasted. So the question I'm really asking is: How should we go about getting to the stage of leading worship if we feel we have been called to do so? How can I also be sure that it's actually what God is calling me to do and not just something I've got in my head? I hope to catch the interview when its available online, thanks!
1. Do you have any practcal tips for nurturing young people who have just begun leading worship? 2. What would your approach be to a church that seems very bored in worship?
Hi guys. My questions would be: Is leading 3 times per week too much? How do you as Pastors support the work of your worship leaders? Look forward to hearing your thoughts Thanks :-)

Just a heads up to Si, pray to God and ask Him about it and He will make a way if He wants you there. Which also bring sup another question from myself: 1. What if there is someone is annointed in a worship gift (either so they claim or as others sense it) yet is not musically inclined in the least bit? Should they lead congregational worship? 2. Reiteration of Jay, what do we do about churches (SOMEHOW) bored by worship? Do we pull a 'Heart of Worship' on them? 3. Is it possible for a person with a so so voice to be called by God to worship lead? 4. How do we reconcile the whole issue mentioned before by Martyn Layzell regarding the current seperation and the need for eventual mergence of 'worship' and Holy Communion? 5. I am curious, and anyone can answer, but if we do not normally use the normal 'Quieten your hearts, guys, we're gonna worship' how else would you nomrally 'start a time of worship'? This is with regards to Martyn Layzell's article in the previous blog. I have more questions but I will leave it there for now and let others have their turn
The Music of God must rise, with or without me.
From a guy who is 16 years old, and still yet unsure about what he wants to do in life and how god fits into it 1. how do you know if this worship malarcy is right for you? 2. if so, how do you optimise this, in the right proportion, in the right context and in the right place and time? thankyou...............XD
love god. love life. love worship
Tim, my question is in regards to identifying possible emerging worship leaders: When identifying an emerging leader, often an emphasis is place on three things; 1. Musical ability/potential 2. Character 3. Calling It seems to me that two of these things (character and musical ability/potential) can be easily identified, fine tuned and worked on but the other (calling) is not quite as straight forward and perhaps can take longer to identify in a person. With that in mind, how much emphasis and reliance should be placed on each, and at what point do you say to someone 'you might be musically gifted and have great interpersonal skills and be an all round good egg (or not!), but I'm not sure that you are called to be a worship leader? Thanks. Joel Mennie
Hi, I lead worship at our Youth Services, evening café services and have done the odd song in the main morning services... Our evening café service is meant to be the "service with a difference", which is why it's ran like a café, they don't preach but get people to discuss as groups topics and questions and then share - this is all supported by a nooma video (or something similar) on the topic. Now you've got a rough idea of where I'm coming from, here are my questions: 1. Should times of worship be purely singing songs & hymns or should there be alternatives for people who feel they're tone deaf and so don't enjoy the singing and therefore don't like the current way we worship God? 2. How could you introduce these alternatives? Which ways are best to go about this - a separate areas for the alternative (eg. at New Wine, they had a tent within our "barn" for people who wanted to worship with paint etc)? Thanks, Jack, 16

How do you get support as a young leader beginning to lead worship in youth services etc. when you have been leading and you ask the main worship leader, assistant pastor etc. and you just get "it was good" with no further comments or ideas to improve?? I've only been worship leading for about a year and a half on and off just occasionally so there is loads more i know i need to do eg. grow in confidence, tune into spirit more rather than getting stuck on a song list etc. Heather, 16
