New Album: Day 3

We've been working away at 2 new tracks today, "The highest and the greatest," and "Clinging to the cross." We've finished for the day and are off to Pizza Express. It's been another encouraging day.

We started with "The highest and the greatest." This is probably the most hymn like song on the album. We were keen to get the song sounding big, without using a predictable drum pattern and musical arrangement. I think we've found something that moves along nicely. It starts with a cool piano riff and then the whole band kick in. It's definitely going to get pretty epic by the end. We've got a really cool outro and the plan is to add a whole bunch of live crowd noises to build up the sound. That's the idea anyway - we'll see if it works.

Next was "Clinging to the Cross." I was keen for this to be quite dark and haunting. The other songs on the album are quite 'up,' so we've made this more chilled. I think it's sounding really beautiful. Paul (Drums) was on brushes, a really tasteful piano part and lots of space. We're hoping to get someone to do a duet with me on this track. Top secret though!!

Another good day. The guys have gone home now. Just left with Sam Gibson, Nathan Nockells and myself. The plan is to do a couple of vocals tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes. Also hoping to get a long overdue haircut in the morning. My wife will be pleased!

as will the rest of us! - that mop is disgraceful

Says March! Jon...as a pastorate we feel we should have the right to tie you down at focus and cut off the rodent that has taken residence on your head ;o)

very cool to have this insight into the workings of your new material. can't wait to hear it... might have to wait until the pirated copy comes out in China.

Joke.

I did see a pirated Steven Curtis Chapman CD on sale the other day... random that.

p.s. don't be dissin' the mop guys. i'm sporting quite a healthy one myself at the moment.
