New Album: Day 1

After two years the time has come to record a new album. So I'm in Chapel Lane studios, in Hereford and we are beginning to track for a new record. It's all very exciting!

Over the next 4 days we're tracking 7 songs. Nathan Nockels (When Silence Falls, Facedown, Passion) is producing, Sam Gibson is engineering and the musicians include Paul Evans on drums, Matt Weeks on bass and Stu Garrard on electric guitar. Each day I'm going to feedback on what's been going on.

DAY 1

It's been a great first day. I'm really keen to capture a sense of worship, excitement and passion in all the songs. The three words that I keep thinking about are EDGY, EPIC and EMOTIVE. I want the songs, arrangements and sounds to capture these qualities. It's important to have something to aim at when you start recording and for me this is it. I'm keen that the songs shake people up and draw them into worship.

Today we've worked on two songs. "Out of the darkness," and "Happy Day."

"Out of the darkness," is sounding big and anthemic. The song is ultimately about God's mercy and our journey from darkness into glorious light. It expresses a hope and confidence in our salvation. Big guitars and lots of passion.

"Happy Day," is upbeat and frantic. Evans did a fantastic job on the drums. The guitars are very melodic - lots of hooks. I'm definitely hearing a big gospel choir on this.

Anyway that's Day 1. I'll let you know how tomorrow goes. Would appreciate any prayers for this week. Really want God to be at the centre of all that goes on.

great stuff Tim - awesome of you to be giving us the inside scoop! can't wait to hear it!

Exciting - even for complete non-musos!

So glad you're recording Happy Day - loved it when we played it at HTB. Can't wait to hear the others!!

Rock on.
