Chapter One

Some of you might know that I've recently written a little devotional book called 'Holding Nothing Back.' The American version contains images and design to go with the content. The publishers have kindly allowed me to put online the first chapter - so attached is a pdf of chapter one of my book. I hope you enjoy it.

Do add any comments and I'll try and join in on any discussions.

Cheers,

TimĀ

I'm consistently encouraged and inspired by your heart for God and your insights into His worship...

It's my birthday today, and this has completely made my day. Thanks for keeping my eyes on Christ and for truly inspiring me this morning.

Tim,

I thought you'd like to know. I've written a review of your album on our website:

Holding Nothing Back Review

Thanks for producing a great God-centred album.

I like the way you've tried to deal with the problem. God is big, we are small. He's here and he's there. He's personal and unknowable. He's contained in a man, and uncontainable. Maybe you've heard of a book called "Your God is too Small"? It also wrestles with the same sorts of issues. In C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters the older demon talks about a man as an amphibian: living in time and destined to eternity. "Eternal perspective" is, of course, an impossibility, this side of death. This was brought home to me recently as I read the story about Samson's parents, and the angel.

Manoah inquired of the angel of the LORD, "What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?"

He replied, "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding."

Your chapter ends:

"We could spend a lifetime studying these attributes and still we will only know in part. We could use every word in the dictionary to describe the character of God and yet we would fail to even come close to doing Him justice."

I like the positivity in St Paul's assertion: "We know in part". Spending time, as I do, as a youth worker, I often hear teenagers come down on the "postmodern" side of the argument, that says:

"we know in part therefore we know not at all".

Paul makes it clear that we don't know everything, but we have got bits of the jigsaw on the table. A corner, or a cornerstone, at least.

Happy nappies.

Great chapter, Tim! I've read half of your book and I LOVE it. Your writing is so good and original, and you write about God with so much passion.

Keep up the great work; you should write another book sometime soon! God loves you.
