The Day Our Techies Took Over
For our annual worship team party we let out techies form a band, they even rewrote a couple of songs, see below...
JESUS SHAVES
(for Ref open 'Jesus Saves' in the pop-up player)
Foam is here
Spread the news to everyone
All his facial hair has gone
Jesus shaves
Though his dreadlocks still remain
He got out his Philishave
Jesus shaves
Hope is here
With the smoothest face around
Spread the news to every town
To let all the world know that Jesus shaves
Razor sharp, is the news to share that Jesus shaves
Foam is here
He is armed with his Gilette
He prefers to shave in wet
Jesus shaves
Though you think he has a beard
The Romans thought it weird;
Jesus shaves
Hope is here
With the smoothest face around
Spread the news to every town
To let all the world know that Jesus shaves
Razor sharp, is the news to share that Jesus shaves
WORSHIP THE BOARD
(for Ref open 'Worship The Lord' in the pop-up player)
Worship the board
With beautiful monitors
Assorted reverberence
Such a low noise floor
You are the board
My Yamaha digital
With balanced line signal ins
And digital core
I'm mixing for your glory
I'm mixing for the gain above all gains
For nothing else is worthy
Analogue could never take your place
I'll feed all my screens
With component video
and DVI digital
From Barco control
You will convert
From interlaced analogue
And SDI camera shots
To scale, mix and cut
Projecting for your glory
Scaling up to analogue XGA
For nothing else is blurry
Composite could never take your place

17Jul08I'm not sure to be amused or distressed that I actually understood everything in the second song...

17Jul08Hmm… I’ve got one. It’s a lighthearted tune about the wonders of heresy called Oh Behave.
Oh behave
Tim and Al have missed the mark
They will lead us to the dark
Oh behave
And watch out for double talk
You can see it in their walk
Oh behave
Heresy
You can hear their Pastor’s scream
Things are not all as they seem
So let all the world know of their heresy
Point it out and let all the world know of their heresy.
Yeah, that sounds about right.

21Jul08What actually worried me was that some of them are incredibly good musicians (although to be fair, some are tone deaf which worried me a bit more) - warning for us, me thinks!

22Jul08Funny you should say that - most of the best audio engineers I know are musicians. Sadly I'm not one of them, but I did find investing in some good books about music theory completely overhauled my whole approach to developing a balanced mix - bit of a tip there...
Also (for maximum nerd points) why does the piccy for this entry depict a Mackie console (SR Series possibly?) when the lyrics clearly indicate the (superior) Yamaha digital series? Only interested is all...
:-P
If you mic the kick drum, God will come.
