I'm a sophomore college student who has walked into the responsibility of leading up and coordinating worship for our university's weekly chapels this past year and for the next upcoming year. What words of wisdom, if you will, would you give to college students leading worship and writing songs for their university's campus?

10Mar08What is your best advice on a 16 year old drumming / acoustic guitar player wanting to pursue his prophecy of worship leading & song writing?

10Mar08"How do you solve a problem like Maria?"... well actually it should be "how do you solve a problem when you have a big worship team (of all ages) and they don't all get on with each other's musical style?"
We have some keen younger members who like to play loud and use every box of tricks going, and then we have someone who plays the keyboard beautifully but can't necessarily "blend" i.e. likes to play all the bass notes etc. leaving no space for the other instruments. Sometimes I feel we should split the members up into different groups but I am not sure how good this would be for all or for unity?
Any suggestions...?

10Mar08Hi matt,
thank you for so many great songs over the years. One thing ive always wanted to know is, does it concern you when people/churches change the words to your worship songs?
ie i heard of a church that sang you 'give and bless the day' on blessed be your name, instead of you give and take away as they didnt agree with the theology of it. does it concern you?
i think this is actually illegal aswell without the permission of the artist is that right?
God bless,
gavin.

10Mar08On those days when you're leading worship, but the congregation just isn't engaging with God for whatever reason, what do/can you do? Do you go into worship times with a 'Plan B'?
Thanks,

10Mar08How do you juggle ministry and ministry as a job. Also, how do you juggle family and ministry?

10Mar08Hmm.. If I were to have a cup of coffee with Matt Redman, here are a few things I'd want to pick his brain about. And I know you said "short question" but I couldn't stop myself from writing 3 "short questions"!
What do you see the Lord doing in worship now and over the next few years?
What is something that you see happening in worship right now that might be a potential problem or danger, and what can we do about it?
There are so many different styles of music and ways of doing things in Worship Ministry. It seems like different things work for different churches (ex: the church down the street might use a secular song in their set to go along with their sermon series, the other church across town might only use hymns). How can we as the Body of Christ support each other?
Who is your audience when you are writing songs?

10Mar08Hi Matt
My wife and I are the worship leaders at a church that meets every Sunday in a pub.
Every week this is an outreach opportunity and we have lots of unsaved people attend.
What advice can you give about how best to lead worship in a environment where there are so many who don't know Jesus?
How do you lead people like that into the presence of God? How best can we structure a song list to connect with non-Christians?
Thanks
