India - Day Two
Today is our only day off of the trip, and England happened to be playing their one day international against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. We managed to gets tickets to the most hilarious game of cricket I've ever been to...
We slept late this morning to catch-up a bit, then arrived at the Ahmedabad stadium after lunch. Cricket is HUGE in India, and the stadium was pretty full of locals watching the game.
We were the ONLY England supporters in a crowd of 30,000. Of course it was pretty easy to spot us, made a lot easier by our massive Union Jack. The crowd were watching us as much as the game, and we were on Sky Sports International as the 'England Fans' for the reaction shots. So surreal getting texts from friends in the UK 'Oi, we've just seen Ali Marshall being mobbed on TV'...
Everytime an England player hit a 4, our whole section erupted, the Indians cheering far louder than us as they adopted us as their England fans. When the camera crew came over we were literally mobbed. Hilarious, but also quite scary.
The game is still going on, but we've had to leave to get back to the hotel to eat and sleep. Tomorrow we start our journey to the first conference, stopping to preach in two churches on the way.
We passed endless familes all crammed onto one tiny motorbike - awesome.
So far the team are doing really well, no one is ill, everything has gone better than we expected. Thanks to all of you who are praying - it is really making a difference. Keep going!
