Homesick?
Do you ever get homesick? I had a moment the other day: I was sitting staring into a suitcase at the prospect of recycling my socks, longing to be home. I felt blue - I get like that when I’m away from the people I love and place I belong. I just wanted Home: the comfort of my own familiar surroundings, my own bed, a hot bath, long chats on the sofa with Liv. Home.
It got me thinking: there are times when, in my walk with God, for all the joy and hope, for all the wonder of seeing Jesus at work in our lives, something is still incomplete. We’re longing for another place. We’re ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, but just not Home yet.
Jesus said "do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-4)
What an awesome thought: that Jesus is preparing a room for us, and that he’s promised to come back to get us. Our lives need to reflect this waiting, hoping, longing. Our worship must include the cry of the homesick heart, the longing for Home.
