Holiday

I've been away for three week and just got back to the blogosphere with some thoughts.

I don't know about you but I find life tends to go in seasons: times when you're working flat out, other times when things seem boring and flat. The last year has been pretty intense with the birth of our first little boy, moving house and a few other things. It's been a great time, but as a family we decided pretty early on to get a really good break in the summer. August is quite a quiet month, and I was able to get away for three weeks, which has been great.

We spent a week with a bunch of friends (including Tim & Rachel) in Cornwall, then stayed with the in-laws in Wiltshire, before heading on an adventure to Spain, ending up in Barcelona where we found this cool studio in the middle of the city with a roof terrace with views across the old city. And seven flights of stairs.

Going away always gives you fresh perspective on stuff, and usually I come back from holiday having read books, listened to teaching and got my head together. This year I have spent much of the past three weeks on all fours trying to stop my son Kester from eating things like caterpillars, leaves and pencils. In a strange way, equally refreshing.

I'd love to make some mid-year resolutions:

(1) Walk around slower
(2) Spend longer chatting with people
(3) Brush my teeth longer each night
(4) Get to know Jesus better
(5) Read 'Integrity' - the book I've spent the past 3 weeks carry around in my bag, but have not got past the first chapter (a little bit like the time I spent about a year trying to read Bill Hybel's 'Too Busy Not to Pray' but after months of procrastination decided that I was too busy to read it.)
(6) Lock myself in my room with my guitar with no other purpose than to worship
(7) Simplify things as much as possible
(8) Prepare better
(9) Admit that I will probably not represent the UK in the 2012 games
(10) Blog more

I'm looking forward to catching up with friends and getting back into the thick of things. There seems to have been quite a lot going on while I've been away, from the mundane to the shocking.

One thing I feel pretty clear about: I need to fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. Nothing else comes close.

Yes I must get round to finishing 'God on mute'. I've taken it on every holiday this year, however I've only read about half of it. There is always the christmas break!

I've also been out the office for three weeks but they certainly weren't relaxing lol

yeh holidays are a great time for reflecting. as are chidlren! me and my wife have just had our 2nd little boy called Jared. ive got a 3rd week off work next week and its a real time of reflection at the mo.

one of my mid yr resolutions is let God worry more and focus on what i can do not what i cant. this is in particular relation to evangelsim at the mo, and a desperation for friends/family to be saved. nothing wrong with wanting them to saved but worrying about it too much can be crushing.

yes I must read 'Holding Nothing Back' but the author just puts me off!

...

only kidding! Great book, read it!

Don't give up on the olympics mate

Some great resolutions there Al - especially like number 3 :-)

God bless,

Phil
